The IELTS Academic Writing test is divided into 2 sections, IELTS Writing task 1 and 2.

 

In task 1, you will have to take 20 minutes to complete a task of no less than 150 words. There is difference between the Academic and General Formats. In Academic format, the examinee has to summarize a chart/table/map. Whereas, in General Module the examinee has to write a letter.

There are 7 types of writing task for Academic Writing task 1. These are –

Structure of General Writing Module:

The Letter of the General Module can be either Formal or Informal. Here is the formal letter structure we tell all of our General Training IELTS students to follow.

 

Dear Sir/Madam, 

 

Paragraph 1- Say why you are writing to them. (I am writing about…) 

Paragraph 2- Bullet point 1 and supporting details 

Paragraph 3- Bullet point 2 and supporting details 

Paragraph 4- Bullet point 3 and supporting details

In task 2, you are supposed to answer a particular question. To be more specific, IELTS Writing Task 2 requires you to write an essay on a given topic in at least 250 words. But, not to forget – the task is time bound. You are given 40 minutes to present the given topic skilfully in your own words and obviously without any mistakes.

 

You will be asked to write about different types of essays in IELTS Writing Task 2. This includes-

1. Opinion (Agree/Disagree) Essay,

2. Argumentative Essay,

 3. Advantages/Disadvantages (Pros/Cons)

4. Essay, Problem & Solution Essay

5. Direct Question Essay.

 

You have to find the type of essay asked and write your response accordingly. You are expected to use your skills, experience and examples while answering.

Each criterion contributes 25% of the total Writing Score. If you do not care about these parameters in your writing, you will lose a good portion of your score.

 

To get a higher band score in the Writing Module of the IELTS test, one needs to follow some tips and tricks. Here we are sharing some necessary ones with you:

1 Never include the word ‘below’
